Young-Williams Animal Center to offer half-price adoption fees at ‘Meow Bowwow Luau’

“Meow Bowwow Luau” at Young-Williams Animal Center in June will kick off the summer with reduced adoption fees. Staff and pets will be wearing tropical-themed accessories, and the Gelato Brothers will be on-site selling cool dessert treats.

The event will take place Saturday, June 2, 2018 and Sunday, June 3, 2018 and every adopter will receive a free lei in the festive spirit of a luau, while supplies last. Adoptions fees for all adult dogs, cats and kittens will be half-price. Puppies will be available for the standard $250 adoption fee.

“This event is a fun way to welcome the start of summer and find forever homes for a large number of pets,” says Janet Testerman, CEO of Young-Williams Animal Center. “Every pet adopted opens up space in the shelter, so when you adopt, you save two lives. It’s too hot and unsafe for strays to survive outside, and we need Knoxville’s help to save them.”

Pets will be available for adoption at both the main facility at 3201 Division St., off Sutherland Avenue, and Young-Williams Animal Village at 6400 Kingston Pike. Both facilities are open 10 a.m.-6 p.m., with a break from 1-2 p.m. for animal quiet time.

Visitors to the main facility Sunday, June 3, 2018, will be treated to a special guest appearance from 2-5 p.m. by Jody Sims, an award-winning author, artist and cancer survivor. Sims will display her art and read from her new book, “Sanctuary: The Will to Live, The Courage to Love.” Sunday also is National Cancer Survivors Day, and Sims shares her story as a catalyst to help others heal.

Guests can purchase prints or originals of Sims’ artwork, as well as signed copies of her book, which focuses on farm animals rescued from abuse or neglect.

“Those animals are survivors,” Sims said. “They’ve gone through so much and are now able to experience what it’s like to be healthy, safe and happy. For Young-Williams Animal Center to

host this event, it really shows their commitment to not only helping thousands of companion animals as well as farm animals survive every year, but also to the bigger picture of finding ways for

all of us – all sentient beings – to heal and survive together.”

During the two-day “Meow Bowwow Luau,” Young-Williams Animal Center staff will help potential adopters find the right pet for their lifestyle and needs and assist with the completion of the adoption application. Every animal adopted during the promotion period will receive the same services covered by the regular adoption fees, which include a veterinary exam, spay/neuter surgery, some standard vaccinations, a microchip with registration and more.
